Learncarego - Church Missions
Awareness

PURPOSE:

Infuse church-goers, leaders and pastors with an interest in missions that will lead them to appropriate action or thought.

YOUR JOB:

Missions is the central theme of the Bible and is the heart of the purpose of God. The busyness of life and our own personal needs quickly cover over that truth for the missions-passionate person. If that’s the case for us, how much harder is it for those who have not yet become interested in missions to be swayed? They need for you reach their hearts with consistent messages that will develop sympathy for the people of the world ant the purposes of God.

Through gentle persuasion, you can make a difference. How does your church promote events and causes? What mechanisms are already in place for getting the word out? Do you have any new ideas for how to promote missions?

Much of the time, you will be promoting missions in general. Other times, you will help other LearnCareGo projects promote their events. For example, if the Adult Training group is promoting a missions conference, then you can work with them to help get the word out.

Part of your job will be to make sure that the people in your church know about the missionaries the church is supporting and the work they are doing. One of the ways this can be accomplished is through a display with photographs and newsletters. You can also help people make the connection with a missionary by making a phone call to the missionary during a church service. The conversation will then be broadcast over the speakers. For a smoother presentation, the call can be recorded just before the service, edited and then played during the service.

IDEAS:

Kiosk: Let people come to you. Set up a kiosk or table outside of the sanctuary for missions. People will come to look at the pictures, to find out about upcoming events and trips, and to get involved.

Movie night: There are several well-done missions movies. Find the right venue (perhaps in someone’s home) and invite people over for a movie and popcorn.

Conference: Offer you pastor(s) a special weekend to get away to a missions conference. Do whatever you can to make it truly special.

Tapes and books: Find resources that inspire and pass them out to staff, leaders and others in your church.

Need Help?

So much more can be done to promote missions at your church. Gather ideas and share them in our resources page.
